So I came across some really interesting information tonight about bananas I wanted to pass along. The only bunch of bananas left at the grocery store this evening were green. I thought I’d heard you could speed up the ripening process and sure enough, you can just by sealing them off in a bag. The ethylene gas the fruit emit naturally will speed up the ripening process and voilà ripe bananas!
This process can also be slowed down by putting your bananas in the refridgerator, which will keep them for a few weeks. They may turn brown on the outside, but on the inside the fruit will be nice and ripe.
I’ve been eating alot of bananas with lunch these days, they are an excellent source of fiber and potassium and they are tasty frozen, heated, sliced and peeled. I even eat them in my oatmeal, yum!
Just a few delicious ways to enjoy bananas:
Low Calorie Banana Muffins - 75 cals a serving
Banana Chocolate Brownies - simple, low cal, healthy, butter-less..sold!
Gingersnap-Banana Frozen Yogurt - easy, quick, satisfying
